Pr ior to removing breaker panel cover MAKE CERTAIN THE MAIN BREAKER IS IN THE “OFF” POSITION.

Remove the breaker panel cover by unscrewing the 6 (or on some panels 8) screws on the perminiter of the panel.  Pull the panel straight back so as not to "flip" any breaker back on or off.

Once the cover panel is removed, turn the main breaker on.  Attach the clamp meter to one of the legs.  Put the red probe on the leg terminal (same as the clamp is on) and the black probe on the ground bar.  Turn the dial to "KW/KVA".  Make sure the Air Condition/Heat pump is running ! Press the "Range/Mode" button until the "PF" appeares on the screen (6 times). Read the power factor number.  Repeat for the other leg.

If the power factor is .93 or less,  the power-max will save you money!  The lower the power factor is, the more money you will save!
