| Prior to removing breaker panel cover
MAKE CERTAIN THE MAIN BREAKER IS IN THE “OFF”
POSITION. The power should remain “OFF” until the
entire installation is complete. |
|
| Remove the breaker panel cover by unscrewing
the 6 (or on some panels 8) screws on the perminiter of
the panel. Pull the panel straight back so as not
to "flip" any breaker back on or off. |
|
| Once the cover panel is removed, use a
multi-meter to check that there is no voltage! Put
the red probe on a breaker terminal and the black probe
on the ground bar. You should have a voltage of
zero! (you may get a voltage of 1 or 2 volts...
but this is normal) |
|
| Using a screw driver and hammer, knock out a
1/2" "knock out" in the bottom of the breaker
box. |
|
| Cut a 1" BY 1" Slit in the sheet rock
adjacent to the "knocked out" hole. Install the 90
degree adapter (with conduit attached) into the knocked
out hole. Secure adapter with washer and nut
supplied . |
|
| Snake 3 wires from power-max through conduit
(remember to slip nut, washer and sleeve over/on
conduit). Once you snake wires, pull power-max up
to conduit and twist sleeve onto conduit and tighten
washer/nut to power-max. At this point, you can
let the power-max hang free while you complete
installation. |
|
| Mark mounting holes so the power-max is
level and conduit is not "kinked". Using screws or
nylon sheet rock anchors, mount the power-max.
|
|
| Install a 20amp, 2 poll, 230volt breaker in
an open spot. If your panel is full, you can
purchase mini breakers (2 - 15 or 20 amp breakers) and
combine the old style larger breakers to free up
space. |
|
| Install the the "red" wire on the top
terminal of the new 20amp, 2 pole breaker and the black
wire to the bottom terminal. |
|
| Now run the "green" wire to the ground
bar. A ground bar is located on both side of the
panel (usually). |
|
|
Turn power (main
breaker) back on. Flip the “dedicated” two pole breaker
to “ON” and check that the indicator light is on. This
will indicate that the unit is working and installation
is complete.
If the light
is “not” on turn power off, and check to make certain
proper and secure contacts are made with
the red wires and the breaker, and the green
wire and the ground bar. Install cover, turn power back
on, and check light again.
